Universities in Karnataka

The first Karnataka University was Mysore University which was set up in the year 1916 and was followed by the Karnatak University in the year 1949, Bangalore University in 1964, Mangalore University in 1980. The Gulbarga University came up in 1980 and Kuvempu University in 1987.
Apart from these general universities, Karnataka Universities also includes two universities of Agricultural Sciences- the first one at Bangalore in 1965 and the other in Dharwad in 1986 which offer specialization programs in different branches of agriculture. In 1991, a Kannad University at Hampi was set up to promote the study of Kannad language, art and culture.
Out of the above mentioned universities, Bangalore, Mysore and Gulbarga Universities have been awarded five star status by the National Assessment and Accrediation Council (NAAC), which is an autonomous institution of the University Grants Commission.

Bangalore University is considered as one of the famous universities of India. It has 400 affiliated colleges. Over 50 postgraduate courses are conducted through 41 departments of the University. The University received a five star status by the NAAC.
Gulbarga University
Gulbarga-UniversityGulbarga University, located at Gulbagra in Karnataka provides postgraduate courses in various disciplines through 37 departments.
Kannada University
The University conducts M.A. And Ph.D. courses in Kannada literature and Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, Music and diploma in Sculpture and Music.
Mangalore University
Mangalore University, located at Konaje offers various courses in the field of Science, Law, Commerce & Management, Engineering, and Education through 22 post graduate departments.
Karnatak University
The Karnatak University Karnatak University, located at Dharwad, caters to quality higher education in the fields of Arts, Science and Social Science through 48 postgraduate departments. The University was awarded five star status by the NAAC.
University of Mysore is considered as one of the leading Universities of India. It is the oldest University of Karnataka.
Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences
It was established in the year 1996 by the Karnataka Government.
Visvesvaraya Technological University
The University conducts 25 Bachelor of Engineering and 54 Masters in Technology courses. The admission is through competitive exam.
Manipal University
Manipal University, located in Manipal in Karnataka, caters to the multi-dimensional education, and caters to students from a multitude of nationalities.
Karnataka State Open University
It was established in the year 1996. The University conducts undergraduate, postgraduate and diploma courses in various disciplines.
