Right now a lot of classes for gifted children held (gifted child) is called regular or accelerated classes. But actually, gifted children are like what? Are gifted children that had been printed that way from birth? Or it could be made? Then what about us who feel no or less talented? According to Joseph Renzulli (1978), gifted child that includes three things, IQ, creativity and task commitment.

IQ

We already know what it is IQ. Standard set for gifted children by the Ministry of Education in 2003 was 140. If test results show an IQ of children reaches 140 to above, the child automatically called gifted child.

But then came a certain distribution for gifted children seen from IQ. Mild giftedness (IQ 115-129), giftedness moderate (IQ 130-144), high giftedness (IQ 145 and above).

Schools set their own rules in recruiting talented children. There is a class that only accepts children with IQ of 140 to above. But there also accept children with mild giftedness considering the results of tests of creativity, task commitment tests and interviews.

Creativity

Creativity can be defined as the ability to create new things or the ability to create new combinations of existing ones. Creativity can be judged from the 4 things, product, person, process and fuse / resistor. A product is said to creative if the product is new, different from existing ones, better than the others and of course useful. While a creative person is a person who has a flexible mindset, fluent and original, and sensitive to the problems in the environment. So, people who stiff, not at all concerned with the environment, obviously can not be called creative. The nature of creative personalities who are open to new things, have a great feeling to know that, tenacious, independent, willing to take risks, dare to be different, confident and humorous. People who have a lot of creative thinking humorous, different from the others and saving a lot of vocabulary. Amazingly, he could bring those three things in just seconds after he saw or heard something.

The process to be creative or planning includes the preparation, verification or verification, and implementation or application. There are also other things that serves as a spark of creativity as well as a barrier. Among other talents, environment, and culture respectively. By Silvano Arieti, 1976, the culture that supports, fosters and enables the development of creativity is called creativogenic. Believe it or not, without discriminating a particular culture, there is also a culture that inhibits creativity.

Task Commitment

Task commitment is to what extent our responsibility and finish the task. Not only schools but also the task of tasks at home and around us. Task commitment can be measured through certain tests which should only be done by a psychologist. Task commitment includes responsibility, motivation, tenacity, confidence, have clear goals before doing anything and independence.

Children who have a high commitment task requires no encouragement from the outside to finish its work. He also solve independently and resilient and has a clear purpose. And that is also quite important, do not like to delay the work.

And what about you? Are you confident enough to call yourself gifted? Well, maybe an IQ of less than 140. and because the more mature person’s IQ is constant, then increased IQ at age now it seems difficult and almost impossible. Let our IQ just still like that, there are two other factors that could support our talent, creativity and task of our commitment. Two things can be trained really. Start with little things like not throwing mama tasks assigned to others such as helpers or sister. If parents told us and we can do it, do it yourself! We can also learn to set goals that we must accomplish at the end of the semester, plan what should we do to achieve that goal and obedient to the plan we have created. Another example, if during the time we often put off completing a task, start now do not be postponed again. That shows we have high task commitment. If during the time we like to sneak a peak to our friend’s paper work, start now working independently according to our abilities.

Being a gifted child is not just about the enter this class, pass more quickly than other children or practically gifted. More than that, think about your future is bright if you can be creative and responsible child. Think also about the future of our nation’s childhood when kids are accustomed to being creative and responsible. The things looks trivial can actually change ourselves as a whole.

So guys, dare to be gifted?
